Is it possible to work out how tall someone is from the size of their foot?

To be part of the national activity, you and your class will...

  1. Measure and record:
    * the "Foot Size" of each person according to the Reach for the Stars Foot Size Scale; and
    * the height of each person (shoes off) in centimetres.
(Use the data record sheets or spreadsheet provided).
  2. Group students according to their "Foot Size", then
    * add together the heights of all the boys in each "Foot Size" group; and
    * add together the heights of all the girls in each "Foot Size" group.
  3. Record the number of girls or boys in each "Foot Size" group and their calculated total height.
(For data entered into the spreadsheet this summary will be generated automatically).
  4. Give your data summary to the pre-school or school coordinator of Reach for the Stars (schools which lodged data through thte website before 9 pm on Friday 7 September were entered in the draw for a new Apple MacBook).
